A New Chapter
Godric is a tall and muscular werewolf human.
“Winter is coming. We cannot face it alone. I am a son of the north, a Randulf! I choose to fight. For Luna, for the North, and for my House…”
odric is in his late twenties, measuring about 6’4. He has dark brown hair and a thick but well kept beard. The man has deep hazel eyes that seem to contain a well of thought and feeling. His brow is often furrowed, belying a man in deep thought and inner conflict. He is polite and well spoken and seems to weigh his decisions carefully. Those who pay close attention can tell that his reserved demeanor works to contain a deep, and primal, passion just below the surface, as if some great personal quest drives him ever forward. He is constantly aware of his environment and turns quickly at small sights and sounds. When startled, his eyes take on a soft amber glow to those who are perceptive enough to notice. He introduces himself as Godric Northman. Northman is the common name for bastards from the northern human lands, and you can tell the name represents some shameful memory for the otherwise proud warrior. A look of resentment marks his face when the name is uttered, but it is quickly replaced again with his calm and stoic demeanor. Hanging from his neck is a silver chain bearing a crescent moon, the sign of Luna, the goddess of the Moon and Non-Evil Lycanthropes. Godric wears leather beneath a well-crafted steel breastplate. On his back is a Greatsword, and he wears armor bearing the sigil of a Winter Wolf upon its face. He wears a thick cloak made from the white fur of a Winter Wolf, protecting him from the cold. The man looks at you with a rigid expression, calmly measuring your actions with the steady gaze of a calculating predator. Were it not for his noble demeanor, the gaze would be quite unsettling.
To his friends, Godric is known for his sense of honor and justice and his family finds him kind, although some consider his reserved personality a sign of coldness and disdain. His reserve is something he has worked on intensely his whole life, to contain the wolf within. Recently however after the death of his father, his bottled up emotions have come exploding to the surface, and he struggles to remain in control of them. He is a good man, and does not wish to hurt anyone, but neither can he stand by any longer while the world falls apart around him, and his family name remains wrongly tarnished. Godric now heads out to explore the world that has forsaken him, and spread the will of Luna; and maybe, Moon willing, return honor to the name of his forefathers and the house of Randulf.
Godric has a thirst for knowledge about history, especially about his House and the north. Since his family was once nobility, they were very well educated and had a decent collection of literature when the went south in search of a new home. Godric is well educated and loves reading about past wars and battles. He is also an excellent hunter, as are all werewolves and hunting is one of his favorite hobbies. In addition, he is an excellent wood-carver and loves to carve on his spare time. He also is very fond of swords, especially greatswords, and has been a blacksmith apprentice in the past. He spends time every day tending to his sword ensuring it is cleaned and well sharpened. While he has had little exposure to the outside world, he is very cautious of anything that could lead to temptation. As a werewolf, he is very mindful of anything that could make him loose control of his willpower and sees Discipline, Honor, Honesty, and Loyalty to be among the most important traits any man can have.
“When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.”
“No… i will do it. The man who passes the sentence, should swing the sword”
odric Randulf, publicly known as Godric Northman, is a member of the house of Randulf. The Randulf Clan was once the ruling family of a large northern city of Whitethrone, formerly known as Wulfstead, loved by all their subjects. The symbol of the Randulf family is a Winter Wolf. However, when it was discovered that the son of the current Lord Randulf had been afflicted with Lycanthropy, the people demanded his death. The Randulf’s refused to give up one of their own, and went into exile along with a small group of those still faithful to their house.
House Randulf and their followers traveled south until they came upon a great forest, where they began their lives anew, and lived in peace away from civilization. When the Elven Werewolf, Baelkai Moonear, came upon the family and heard their tale, he was overwhelmed with admiration for their honor and loyalty to their own. He stayed and taught the Randulf boy how to control his affliction, and treat it as a gift. He taught the Randulf’s the teachings of Luna, the Goddess of the Moon and patron of Non-Evil Lycantropes. Through his teachings, they learned that Lycanthropy is a gift to the mortal races, to bring them closer to nature and to her. Together they founded the village known as Solitude.
Lycanthropy was originally a gift from Luna. The original Lycanthropes were not evil, but given the powers of Luna to become closer to nature. All descendants of these Lycanthropes are known as Natural Lycanthropes, and are the only ones who are contagious. Those they spread Lycanthropy to are known as the Afflicted, and are not contagious and less powerful. Eventually, some Lycanthropes became evil and corrupted Luna’s teachings. These are the creatures society knows and fears. Those who still follow the teachings of Luna remain Good, and hunt down the evil Lycanthropes that have corrupted the gift of Luna.
Over time, the elf became the shaman leader of the clan, and now every member of the village goes through the coming of age ceremony in which they are gifted with the blessing of Luna, and become werewolves. This ceremony is known as “The Joining” and represents becoming one with the pack.
“A ruler who hides behind paid executioners soon forgets what death is.”
“You think my life is such a precious thing to me, that I would trade my honor for a few more years of… of what?”
The family is extremely loyal and hold honor and family above all else. They believe Evil lycanthropes have tainted the gift of Luna and put a stain upon all Lycanthropes. Now, 13 generations have passed and Godric Randulf is one of the clans strongest men. He is 28 years old and his father recently died, killed by a werewolf hunter. Godric killed the man himself, for he was nearby hunting deer with his father. The clan is still led by the old werewolf half-elf. When his father the alpha died, he turned down the honor of being Alpha despite the urging of his clan and instead turned it over to his younger brother Eric who is 25. This made the elder happy, as there has always been a touch of resentment between Godric and the shaman because Godric wants to bring his family out of hiding and redeem their name. Both brothers are noble and high of honor like their father, and Eric was happily accepted to be the alpha in replacement of Godric, who felt his destiny lied elsewhere, despite Eric continually offering the position back to his elder brother.
“If you would take a man’s life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die.”
The Randulf clan have a common slogan “Winter is Coming”. This is a prophecy from Luna, and it refers to some evil or darkness over the horizon, a foretelling of danger. This is also looked upon philosophically, for winter is the season of the wolf, perhaps signifying that only the Randulf’s are prepared for the dangers to come, and will have to face it.
“I have made many mistakes in my life, but that was not one of them.”
Godric recently decided to leave his home after he experienced visions that he interpreted as a calling from his Goddess, Luna. He loves his family, but he is tired of living in the shadows, hiding from a world that does not understand him.
He seeks to venture out and learn about the world that has forsaken him and his loved ones, and to spread the will of Luna, and maybe one day, redeem the name of the House of Randulf…
Younger Brother Eric – “Can a man still be brave if he is afraid?” Godric – “That is the only time a man can be brave.”
